Three dead after vehicle crash

Three individuals were killed in a multi-vehicle crash on San Carlos Boulevard in Fort Myers Beach on Monday morning.

Two individuals were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at the 18000 block of San Carlos Boulevard. A third person was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital and was pronounced dead there.

Fort Myers Beach Fire Department Executive Assistant Fire Chief Ronald Martin said the accident occurred at approximately 9:12 a.m.

The fire department responded along with Lee County EMS to the area near The Boardwalk Caper.

San Carlos Boulevard was closed to traffic for approximately two hours. The Florida Highway Patrol handled the investigation into the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 2017 Lexus was traveling northbound on San Carlos Boulevard when the driver of the vehicle, identified as David Patterson of Arizona, crossed the pavement median divider and crashed into a vehicle traveling southbound on San Carlos Boulevard. Patterson, 53, was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His passenger has not yet been identified.

The southbound vehicle, a 2004 Jeep, overturned and the Lexus came to final rest facing north from within the southbound San Carlos Boulevard outside lane. The Jeep came to final rest on its driver side facing southeast, partially within the southbound San Carlos Boulevard outside lane and curbed shoulder. The driver of the jeep, 33-year-old Fort Myers Beach resident Samantha Green was pronounced dead at the scene.
