The Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its "Commotion by the Ocean" debate for the Fort Myers Beach Town Council candidates Thursday, March 5.

The debate is expected to feature all seven candidates vying for three open seats on the council. The event will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Beach Baptist Church, 130 Connecticut Street.

A meet and greet will start at 6 p.m., and the debate will begin at 7 p.m.

Fort Myers Beach Chamber of Commerce President Jacki Liszak said those who want to submit questions can send them to info@fmbchamber.com. The questions will be randomly chosen during the debate, she said.

The debate is open to the public and will be hosted by Maegan Miller of NBC2. Each candidate will be limited to three minutes to each question. After a break, there will be a speed round where each of the candidates will be asked questions with a yes or no answer.

Fifth graders at the Fort Myers Beach Elementary School have submitted questions already, Liszak said. A number of the questions deal with air, water and litter pollution issues.

Light refreshments will be served. For more information, call the chamber 239.454.7500.

"We encourage everybody to come out an enjoy," Liszak said. "It's a nice opportunity to get one-one-one time," before and after the debate with the candidates for town council, she said. The election for the seats will be held on March 17.
