Vote Liszak, Raymond, Bennett

October 31, 2018
Fort Myers Beach Bulletin, Fort Myers Beach Observer

To the editor:

Jacki Liszak is the top candidate for our fire department to move forward towards greater achievement. Jacki Liszak possesses an inclusive, professional, educated business and community background. Jacki Liszak has extensive experience in dealing with the issues facing our community and understands better than most the adverse impact our water crisis is having on our region. Our funds are from property taxes. Should values drop, then services are sure to follow.

Jacki Liszak believes in creating strong policy, inviting community feedback and acting upon the many recommendations that were included in our 2017 Strategic Plan. I believe Jacki will be supportive in developing alternate funding sources and partnering with neighboring jurisdictions to the benefit of both.

Jacki Liszak believes that any group or commission is best served through education, keen listening skills, and relevant research based on the subject at hand. She is open to new methodology and increased technology, especially to improve delivery of emergency services in the field. Jacki has a collaborative style that encourages divergence of opinion yet strives to always reach consensus on the issues at hand.

As a current fire commissioner of this fire district, I am asking for your vote for Jacki Liszak. I truly believe that Jacki will be a tremendous asset in refocusing our district to allow our chief to achieve more while surpassing our current successes within budget. The best organizations always strive to improve. We must too. Elect Jacki Liszak to Seat 3.

Fire Commissioner Bob Raymond, Seat 1, is running for reelection. Bob deserves and should be reelected to this position. Bob Raymond always has the taxpayer in mind for all of the fire commission's decisions. Bob has served our community well as a town council person and mayor. He continues to volunteer as a member of the San Carlos Blvd traffic studies.

Bob Raymond, as treasurer of our fire district, is keenly aware of how scarce our resources are and insists that all funds be wisely spent. Bob is open to innovations and improvements in processes and services delivered provided the reward is appropriate to the cost. On Nov. 6, I ask you to join with me and cast your vote for Bob Raymond, Seat 1.

John Bennett will be a fine commissioner for our fire district. John is running for office with a clear conscience. He stands for nothing less than honesty, civility and fiscal responsibility. John Bennett also believes in term limits for all elected officials.

John served our country for 12 years in the United States Navy. His duties included high security clearances, which enabled John to supervise and control encrypted communications equipment. John was deployed throughout the USA, Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia combat zones. John was also a naval air crewman with responsibilities for safety, training and crew coordination.

John Bennett understands the role of a first responder. John was a sworn police officer in Missouri. John first served as a road officer, advancing to crime scene investigator and DUI homicide detective. John Bennett's experiences will be an asset to our district, as he understands the emotional issues facing our firefighters in the performance of their duties.

Since relocating to FMB, John has been the operations manager for a local business.

John coordinates activities including personnel, budget, marketing and sales. His business experience, coupled with his naval and police public service provide John the necessary capabilities he needs to be a contributing, competent fire commissioner. John Bennett understands that the job of a fire commissioner is fundamentally a fiduciary of the organization, that is to exercise care and prudence in all financial decisions. Please join with me and vote for John Bennett, Seat 5.

Ron Fleming

Fire Commissioner Seat 2
